Why use a group mailer?
In the FirstClass world, we've always been encouraged to use Conferences (and now Communities) to share information with groups of people. So we create our user groups, distribute conferences to those groups, and post messages. For most purposes this is great - it avoids the trap of "all staff" mailing lists that result in email overwhelm, and encourages a real exchange of information rather than one-way announcements.
But a few select individuals in every organization might have a real need to push content to the private mailboxes of a group of users. Most often these are top-level executives or administrators, and their intent is to make a one-way announcement. fcGroupMailer allows those individuals to send to Personal Mail Lists, based on the contents of the Groups that are already being maintained by the FirstClass Administrator.
How it Works
fcGroupMailer lets a FirstClass Administrator designate individuals who should be allowed to send private mail to any existing FirstClass group. fcGroupMailer creates a Personal Mail List for each sender, and updates that list each night at a scheduled time to keep it in sync with the members of the FirstClass group.
Recommendations for Senders
When fcGroupMailer creates a mail list for a Sender, it functions just like a mail list created by an end-user. Senders may simply create a new message, and use the name of the list in the To, Cc, or BCC field. To prevent recipients from generating a "reply all" that goes to all members of the list, BCC is strongly recommended when sending messages to groups of FirstClass users.
