Question:What is defined as junk mail?
Answer: The rules.subject, rules.attachment, and rules.mailrules files within the Filter folder of Internet Services on the admin desktop determines what is marked as junk. For more information on Internet Services mailrules, please see the following website:

In FirstClass version 8, junk mail is also defined as anything that exceeds the Medium spam score as set in Mail Rules in the UCE/Spam tab of Basic Internet Setup. The default score is 50 for this setting.

What is defined as Junk Mail - FirstClass versions prior to 7.1

Question:What is defined as junk mail?
Answer: This is a list of the "junk rules" currently in effect. These rules cannot be modified and are applied system-wide for all users.

On general headers:
1) If an item has any priority set, obey it and don't mark as junk (it may already be marked as such)
2) If message has no messageID, mark as junk
3) If message has one of the following X-Mailer's, mark as junk: "Extractor", "Floodgate", "Group Mail", "Millennium Mailer", "AutoMail"
4) If a message has only BCC recipients, mark as junk

On addresses:
1) If from address has no @ sign, mark as junk
2) If from address is in the filters list, mark as junk
3) If from domain name is numeric.com, mark as junk
4) If to field is Friend@public.com, mark as junk
5) If from address matches to address, mark as junk

If an incoming message to a user meets any of the above criteria, it will be treated according to the "Junk Mail Handling:" field found in that user's preferences as shown.
